1. Welcome to BadPsychics, for those of us unfamiliar with who you are, can you give us a quick history lesson as to who you are and how you got to where you are today?
I'm Becky Walsh, and I'm a psychic medium, I got where I am today replying to your questions by looking at Derren Browns web site and finding the link to bad psychics.
But an over all history is that I used to work in theatre as a stage manager in London's west end on musicals mostly. I was born with psychic and mediumship abilities so when I finally got fed up of theatre, I started to work as a psychic, running the two jobs at the same time.
I now am a tutor at the college of psychic studies which is where I trained my skills (as well as Arthur Findlay College), and I also do readings out of two shops in London, Watkins and Treadwells bookshops and am a regular on Talk sport Radio's Howard Hughes show The Unexplained.
2. I want to start off with some very specific claims you have made with regards to predicting the future. You have told me face to face that you can not predict the future, yet on your own website you tell of how you predicted that France would win Euro 2004 and you claimed that your spirit guide told you, so do you stand by this claim, and if so how on earth would an all knowing spirit get something like that wrong?, after all everyone knew that Greece would win.
The part of my web site you are talking about is an article by Loaded magazine. They asked me to predict the football game. I know so little about football if it hadn't said 'Euro' I wouldn't have known who was playing.
I believe the future isn't set in stone, so any future predictions will change. This is something I'm happy to tell anyone, and I don't call myself a fortune teller. I told Loaded that, but that's not the storey they wanted. They doctored the photo put me in a mystic Meg wig, with a tan! They also changed a few of the things that I said. When I said France was going to win, the journalist said that I sounded really sure of that, I then said 'well if I'm wrong I blame my spirit guide' as a joke.
Spirit guides really don't give monkeys about the football. But as a mate, my guide will help me out even if it is for a laugh, which is all Loaded was, I was happy at the point of the article to take the piss out of what I do, because many psychic's take themselves too seriously. That was my first experience of the media, since then and a few other occasions I have been less willing to use any of my skills as a form of entertainment. Many articles I have done have never seen the light of day, they were looking for a negative angle on my work, and simply couldn't find one. I have these skills to help people but I don't want to loose my sense of humour.
I had talked to my boyfriend that day and asked him who he thought would win, he's a big football fan and he said France. So that's what was in my head.
I was amazed at how many questions we got right. I think it was about four out of six. But if you are going to get one major one wrong, that is all people see. Of course this is a great opportunity for you as a Greek Jon, to get one last chance to rub our noise in it!! As you found the article on my site, you can see I'm not one to hide anything, I'm very honest about my work. But if I was to predict the future for myself, it would be to only to work with predictions in the media to validate the work I do, because I did myself no favours on that one. My predictions may have been off, but my hind sight it 20/20!
3. So you admit that your predictions on your site were taken out of context and were infact incorrect, but on www.inspiredofspirit.co.uk on a recent interview you clearly stated, “I have predicted the future, and I have clients phone and say that what I said would happen did.”
Now I have predicted the future too, I predicted that Greece would win Euro 2004 and at odds of 150/1 I made a nice little bundle of cash out of it, but in no way would I say I predicted it psychically. Are you claiming that you have in the past correctly predicted things psychically? or are you just saying that it was coincedental that things came true from good advice given?
I haven't said they were all incorrect, two out for the four for Loaded were in correct. Still amazing odds by anyone's betting! I really think you are still going on about Greece winning because you are Greek!
The future isn't set in stone. There is no destiny in terms of exact details. We have freedom of choose. It's really that simple, you can predict one of a possible out come, with Psychic insight you are more likely to get it right. I also believe by being told something, you yourself can make it happen or stop it happening.
4. Predicting the future is something that can be easily measured and tested, and every medium I have ever met always have fantastic stories of things they have predicted, yet not a single one has ever been able to prove it outside of the anecdotal. So can we put this to rest with a solid question. Can you specifically predict the future using psychic ability? and if not, do you believe there are people who can?
If this were a scientific test you would need a 100 percent success rate. Which will never happen.
Most medical products don't have a 100 percent success rate, but they still go on the market. With research of psychic's there will be the remark ‘Room for error' even if the same test of a medical product would be seen as a pass. You can have insight into the future using psychic ability, but it is freedom of choose that will determine if it comes true. I have never met a psychic who is 100 percent accurate.
5. You have told me of times where you have been able to help people on the verge of killing themselves, almost acting as a samaritan if you will. But do you think it is right that a medium (regardless of if what they can do is real or not,) is qualified or should even put themselves in a position where such emotionally damaged people rely on them?
A shop keeper could be the person who stops you, or a person in the woods walking the dog, the only thing that gives any person the right to help another is love. Who is qualified to love another person?
Love can hurt. I have never invited the phone calls or made it a service. I don't think they call me because I am a medium, I think they call me because they know they will be truly heard by me and feel loved.
6. What would you do if by “proving” the existence of continued life, someone decided it was then ok to kill themselves to be “with” their dead relative in the afterlife, do you think you could live with yourself if your own words were part of the reason someone killed themselves, regardless of how comforting the message was, or the genuiness of deliverence was?
I still drive and there is the possibility of hitting someone with a car. Could I live with myself, I don't know.
A client got cancer at the same time as her husband. Both given 6 months to live. So they made a pact, that whom ever died first, the other would follow. 6 years later she is still alive and has guilt for not keeping the pact. He came through with a message for her. I didn't know about the pact or anything about the situation. The first thing he said was “not long now darling but you must live a while longer yet”.
She had been thinking of killing herself. The pills were in her bag.
Her husband saved her life. Yes I had a part of that by giving the message, do I feel bad? No. Could it go the other way round? Who knows but I trust my link with spirit to inspire and not destroy.
I don't believe death is an end of life. But I know what it is to greave and is normally those left behind that I feel for.
7. You were previously a paid psychic/medium on TV Channel Your Destiny TV, yet I know that you quit, what are your thoughts on Psychic TV channels like this and the practices they employ, and would you ever work for that channel or a similar one again?
The psychics I have met at the channel really want to help people. Also from talking to the lady who owns the channel, that is her intention too.
Personally I don't like £1.50 phone lines. The channel needs to make money to keep going, like any channel the over heads are high. In the beginning the psychic's worked for very little, I have no idea now. I also don't like future prediction especially when it comes in the form of a promise.
This is when it becomes addictive.
When some clients love someone, you may want to know if it is going to work out, that this is ‘the one' and so you call a psychic, they say “yes I see two kids and a big house bla bla”. But then the loved one doesn't call, so your faith in the reading starts to die. So you call another and another until a cycle starts to happen. These are people who can't control there own anxiety. When we fall in love emotion runs high, the majority of that emotion is anxiety. If you break down the emotions in to exactly what you are feeling you may see what I mean.
This addiction is unlikely with normal appointment readings as the moment of anxiety is normally calmed with time. I get many calls which are said to be an emergency, which with a cup of tea and remembering to breathe would take the edge off. I deal with why the person can't have control for themselves and empower them to not need the help.
Sorry went off on one, back to the channel!
I think the accuracy on a text reading is not as good as phone or face to face esp on an eight-hour shift, and you don't ever see if they got it right. But the channels heart seems to be to help people, but not the way I would do it. You can't change things from the outside, so if I was given any kind of programme control with a channel like this I would do it.
8. At The College of Psychic Studies in London you are one of the regular tutors there. How do you end up working in a place like that, and how do they judge who is ‘good enough’ to teach there?
I trained at the College. But because I worked in theatre I couldn't go every term. When I was ready I ran workshops by hiring a room and making flyers. I would have students mainly from clients. It was a lot of hard work.
Then I was told by spirit it was time to call the college and another great place in London called “Alternatives”. It all happened at once. I had a meeting with Alternatives for a workshop, they called at the college and told them about me, at the same time my info was on the desk, and a teaching spot had come up!
It is my own work I teach I don't teach others work.
We are all tested in terms of readings, you read for everyone on the college staff. Which is a lot of people. They say what they thought to the principle. You then do a reading for the principle who is an amazing medium herself so no getting past her with rubbish. There is constant assessment from students every term, in the form of comment cards. The college really have the top people their. I am the youngest teacher on the team and I love it, it's a dream come true.
9. Tony Stockwell is also credited with working at that college, have you ever met him and if so what are your opinions on him?
I did a morning of a workshop with Tony. We were also due to do a radio show together which hasn't come off.
He is a fantastic medium. The word in the college is that he is one of the best mediums there. I have never had a sitting with him. But I don't have that many on the other side. As a teacher I thought he was great.
10. If you were approached by a TV show like Most Haunted or Famous and Frightened to appear as a guest medium, would you take part?
Once I would have said yes no problem. Like I say you can only change something from the inside and like David Wells said to me (Name drop!) “even Jesus turned water into wine and if that's not a party trick.” But for me they have done the party trick, and now the door is open for us to bring through the smart spirits, the ones who can make a difference in the world and make it a better place.
But if Sheba asks me to guest star with Shirley Ghostman I'd have to say yes, lol.
11. You mention Shirley Ghostman (Marc Wootton) What do you think of High Spirits? And do you think it is funny? And do you think it would still be funny if it was you instead of Derek Acorah and Colin Fry that he was taking the piss out of?
I heard that the first one was really funny. Another psychic told me that I missed it.
I don’t like taking the piss out of the audience, I heard that they booked to see a medium and are never told it’s a joke even at the end.
I am very sensitive and would hate it if it was about me. I used to do stand up comedy so I’m not a good judge of if it’s funny.
12. Simple question now, why haven’t you ever taken the James Randi million dollar challenge?
I haven’t seen his site. I guess it’s an impossible thing to do, like I say you can’t be 100 percent accurate. I am sensitive and don’t want to hurt myself in that way. I think I have more chance of winning the lotto.
It is insanely easy to pass, all you have to do is prove supernatural or paranormal ability. There is no judging and James Randi has nothing to do with the actual tests. I advise you to look into it.
Thank you I will have a look.
13. I know you are a big fan of a certain American Medium by the name of John Edward, even though he was exposed on american show dateline, as well as many reports on him show that he uses cold reading, you still believe in him. My question is, how can you believe in someone who has been shown to not only fake psychic ability but has also got caught red handed doing so?
I have seen him live and read all his books. What he talks about in his books I have experienced in my own life.
He is NOT a doosh! John does hundreds of amazing evidence readings. You could find things that look like cold reading or cheating, but in the amount of reading’s thats only to be expected, it doesn’t mean he was cheating. He is an amazing medium.
14. Would you be willing to allow myself and a collegue record you demonstrate, and maybe offer up an alternative theory for how you are accomplishing your results?
Yes that’s fine with me. I won’t be on stage for a long time, like I have said, I am moving away from communicating with people who have crossed over and more into passing on message that will make a diffrence to the world. But I will let you know when I plan my next platform.
Thank you for your time.
You’re more than welcome as always Jon
