My first Ghostly experiences by Becky Walsh.
The first house I remember living in was in Darlington Co Durham in England.
It was a cold house, especially in the winter as this was the times before central heating.
But for some reason, the down stairs room at the front of the house was always the coldest. As a child I wouldn’t play in that room. We had a piano in there that used to play itself. My mother would just laugh and wonder why it never played a tune we knew. Both my brother and I felt something in that house. Even the stairs would creak as if someone was walking down them when there was no body there. Also when I was out playing, I remember there were strange eyes in the wood that would look at you.
We moved to Eastleigh and a new house. It was at this time I was already having conversations with spirit and putting it down to my toys speaking to me. My brother, being five years older than me was getting into Paganism and starting to celebrate pagan festivals.
It wasn’t until we moved back to Darlington and into a different house that Stig and myself started our own paranormal investigations, I was nine years old.
The first experience we had, was with EVP (extra sensory voice phenomenon).
We were using a tape recorder and we recorded the distinctive sound of someone coughing. This was in fact my mothers cough. My mother wasn’t in the house at the time. This is how we learnt about walls holding sound and light vibration and being able to play it back. We never did get any evidence of ghosts, but I would always tell my brother what the spirits were saying. It was his belief that helped me retain my skills from childhood up to adulthood.
It wasn’t until much later on, when I moved to London to go to drama school that I lived in a truly haunted flat.
The ghost lady who lived in the house would use electricity to gain power. This is quite common with spirits. They are not of this vibration so they use the energy of the living, such as energetic teenager, to be able to do anything and get them selves attention.
It was always electrical equipment that she would move across the room. When I first moved in I had a near death experience plugging in an angle pose lamp, whilst holding it. I had a DC shock and I couldn’t let go, at one point I left my body and looked back at myself. If it wasn’t for one of my flat mates unplugging me I doubt I would be here today.
I don’t put this down to the ghost. At least I would be sad if it was down to her, we got on so well once I had lived there a while.
It seems she was a Jewish German living there at the time of the war. She couldn’t leave the flat, which is why she couldn’t move on as a spirit. We spent along time telling her the war was over. She would through things across the room if you said ‘Hitler’. This was a great party trick! How ever one day I decided that I would find a way for her to move on, so not knowing exactly what I was doing, I opened all the windows and doors, lit a bunch of incense and wafted the smoke around shouting for her to go into the light and for spirit to come to take her. The flat became full of sun light and a breeze. The sun went behind a cloud and I knew she had gone.
In my current home I have a lovely lady who stays in the house. She often asks me to buy fresh cut flowers as she likes the smell. I wouldn’t mind, but she doesn’t buy them!
My home is well protected. One day a builder was over to do work on the out side of the house. I had gone out to get some cash from bank for him. When I came back he was white as a sheet. I asked him what happened. He said he was coming in doors from out side and he heard foot steps running at him across the floor and a bang on the table in front of him. When I asked him why he was coming into the house, he couldn’t answer quickly enough. I think he was coming in to have a look around, which my spirit protection would not allow. Living with ghosts and spirits can be a wonderful thing!
